Monthly Member Meetings
Our meetings start with a social gathering at 7:00 PM, and then a short business meeting at 7:30 PM, followed by the program. The meetings typically include a short business meeting and a program. The programs are either educational or entertaining and last about one hour. There are introductions, free refreshments are served and there is a raffle drawing for door prizes. All in all, the club has some of the best meetings of all the local radio clubs. Call on the club repeater for talk-in help (145.310MHz, 114.8 PL tone). All are welcome.
Monthly Breakfast
There is a breakfast on the third Saturday of each month at 9:00 am. All who are interested are welcome. It is held at the Denny’s at 1664 University Ave. (between Pierce and Fry St, on south side of University Ave.). Other social events are held as well.
Monthly Newsletter
The Saint Paul Radio Club has published the “Ground Wave” newsletter for many years. Although we now restrict US Mail delivery to only those that specifically require it, it is sent by email to all paid members each month during the academic year. It is also available on the club website, at http://www.stpaulradioclub.org/.
Monthly VEC {ARRL} Testing
Amateur Radio is required to administer FCC amateur license tests, as the agency no longer does direct testing. The SPRC is affiliated with the ARRL testing program . These test sessions are held monthly-September through June. ( No exams July or August). 10:00 am on the First Saturday of each month. Test sessions are held monthly at the: Galalee Lutheran Church 145 McCarron’s Blvd N, Roseville, MN55113
.“Reservations required. No walk-ins until further notice.” The test session starts at 10:00 AM on the first Saturday of each month.
Classes for Amateur Radio
The club holds classes whenever there is enough interest to form a class. Usually, a Technician License class is held in the fall and a General License class is held in the spring. An Extra License class has been scheduled when requested. In addition,
ARRL Emergency Communication classes are scheduled when there is enough demand.
Member Assistance Programs
The club has help available for members that require assistance with technical problems or help with projects outside their personal skills.
Club VHF/UHF Repeaters
Club VHF repeater at N0GOI Terry’s QTHThe repeater operates on 145.310 MHz with a negative offset and 114.8 PL tone.Club UHF repeater at N0PEY Dale’s QTHThe 70 centimeter repeater is located at N0PEY Dale’s QTH.The Fusion/FM repeater operates on 442.450 MHz with a positive offset and 114.8 PL tone. Regular Nets
The 2 meter net is on the club repeater at 8:30 pm on Wednesdays and the 10 meter net is at 8:00 pm, also on Wednesdays.
The 10 meter frequency is 28.310 MHz (USB) and we call it the “Friendly Net”.
Our nets are on Wednesday nights starting at 7:50 pm with the 10 meter “Friendly Net”
on the frequency of 28,310 Mhz, followed by the 2 meter net at 8:30 pm on the 145.310 Mhz VHF repeater .
Annual Field Day
The annual field day is held every year on the last full weekend of June. Field day is an emergency simulation exercise held for 24 hours. The club usually holds this event in cooperation with The Mining Amateur Radio Club. for more information- ARRL Field Day
Contest Participation
The SPRC is not a strongly active contest club, but members participate in contests each year from their home stations.
Emergency Service Liaison & Public Service Events
The club does support Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) activities and other public service events on an individual member basis. We have an Emergency Service Liaison listed.
Special Projects
Special demonstration events are done on request such as transmitter hunts and APRS.
We hold an annual auction the last Saturday in January at CDH. See the Auction page for full details.
